The
short white bob that Ken Paves, metro Detroit hairdresser, created for
Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion when she opened her Las Vegas Caesars Palace
show last year, is no more!
Following a two-week break, Dion unveiled a new hairdo featuring long
brown tresses. She also celebrated the one-year anniversary of her fragrance,
Celine Dion Parfums, with a champagne toast and several other extraordinary
happenings.
Dion dedicated the show to her mother who was in the audience celebrating
her 77th birthday. The star ran into the audience to her Mom's seat to
give her a red rose and a big hug. And in a post-show backstage visit,
ex-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev dropped by and was greeted by Dion
with open arms. (Ain't glasnost grand, Mikhail?)
Constant readers will recall Paves tried out the short design on Detroit
WMGC-FM (105.1) morning teamer Cynthia Canty before working his wonders
on Dion.
Dion, meanwhile, will launch a second fragance and release a lullaby album
with images from photographer Anne Geddes and a DVD of her Vegas show

to parents of young children in new automobile safety campaign
Washington,
D.C. - The National Safety Council today launched a new multilingual series
of public service announcements to help keep families safe by emphasizing
simple measures for protecting children as vehicle passengers. The nationwide
television and radio campaign features Grammy® Award-winning vocalist
Céline Dion and will air in English, French and Spanish beginning
immediately.Motor vehicle crashes are the No. 1 cause of injury-related
deaths of kids, and more than 700 children are injured or killed in motor
vehicle accidents each day in the U.S. According to a recent National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study, nearly eight out
of 10 children are still not safely secured in cars.
Through the new public awareness campaign, parents and caregivers will
be educated about important, simple, life-saving measures to protect their
kids from infants to pre-teens. This includes proper child safety seat
usage and fit, securing children in the back seat, the usage of booster
seats, and general safety belt usage.
Studies show that 90 percent of parents believe they are properly installing
child safety seats, when in actuality 80 percent of them are not. To locate
a certified child safety seat inspector in the U.S., parents can visit
www.seatcheck.org. The locator provides the most comprehensive list of
organizations and other entities that offer seat inspections nationwide.
"Vehicle crashes are the leading risk our kids face. The good news
is that we know exactly what will provide best protection. Free, expert
assistance is available by calling 866-SEATCHECK, or on the web at www.seatcheck.org,"
said Chuck Hurley, Vice President of the Transportation Safety Group of
the National Safety Council. "We wanted someone of Céline
Dion's stature to prompt life-saving action, and we're grateful to have
her on board."

Dion tops in fashion
TORONTO -- A top fashion stylist and an up-and-coming Canadian designer
offered their own thoughts yesterday on a fashion survey of 500 shoppers
at a downtown shopping centre. The poll conducted by Toronto's Eaton Centre
found that 38% of women chose Celine Dion as the most fashionable
Canadian, followed by 26% for Avril Lavigne.
Phillip Bloch, who's known as Hollywood's stylist to the stars, concurred
with the findings. "I actually think Celine has great taste in clothes,"
he said.
Back in 1999, Dion was given a rough ride for wearing a backwards white
coat and fedora by John Galliano for Christian Dior on the red carpet
at the Oscars.
But although many observers said the outfit was a fashion faux pas, Bloch
was not among them. "I thought if you can't wear a backwards white
Dior tuxedo, which is totally haute couture, to the Oscars, then where
can you wear it?" he said.
His only suggestion was that perhaps she should have rid herself of the
sunglasses and the hat. As for Lavigne, he said: "I think Avril is
very cool, and if I were her age, I'd dress that way, too." But he
cautioned he doesn't want to see anyone over 20-something dressing like
Lavigne.
Nearly half of the men who were surveyed picked Keanu Reeves as the most
fashionable Canadian, and 19% selected Dion.
Bloch and Canadian designer Chris Hewson, 20, agreed that Reeves was a
good choice. Hewson said Reeves could just fall out of bed with stubble,
pull on a blazer and look cool.
Meanwhile, Don Cherry and Pamela Anderson were the top two on the worst-dressed
list.
Bloch said he's worked with Anderson on photo shoots, but hastened to

Celine at Metrostar' Gala
Céline will sing some notes at this Sunday's MetroStar ceremony (Quebec TV Awards) that will be broadcasted at 8p.m. ET on the TV network TVA in Quebec. Her husband and manager, Rene Angélil, confirmed this information obtained by Journal De Montreal. Céline's appearance was a secret and ceremony organizers always denied it. It will be a taped-appearance and Céline will sing a cappella some passages of "S’il suffisait d’aimer".[Source: Journal de Montreal]

2004 Juno Awards CD
Céline's
hit song "I Drove All Night" from her Juno nominated CD 'One
Heart' is included on the compilation CD '2004 Juno Awards' released in
Canada on March 2. Profits from the sale of this album will go towards
music education in Canada. The Juno Awards take place on April 4 in Edmonton
and are broadcast live on CTV.

New Chrysler adds!
Céline
will appear in a new series of Chrysler public service ads aimed at promoting
child safety. Shooting began Monday for the ads, which debut March 25
with the joint sponsorship of the National Safety Council. They will not
mention Chrysler by name.
Even if Céline will appear in these new Chrysler ads and even if
Chrysler brand will still keep its sponsorship of her nightly show at
Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Chrysler spokesman David Barnas said Chrysler
is cutting back on the role of in the advertising for its Chrysler unit
"We're just moving into an exciting new direction, I'm not at all
saying she wasn't a good fit but Chrysler's new ads will focus more on
the product.

is finally expected to tape in Las Vegas this week, including Céline
Dream Team Tour winner's "Meet and Greet" Sunday with Céline.
The BBC's show was originally planned to shoot in Las Vegas in early February,
but they had to postpone the trip due to Céline's recent illness.
