Celine will sing in China!!
According
to Las Vegas Review-Journal, Celine is considering an offer to perform
three concerts in mainland China in October. The offer came from prominent
promoter Marc Berman, who was the first to book a major entertainer in
China. He put Mariah Carey in Shanghai in November for two concerts that
attracted 52,000 fans. Berman said his offer includes two concerts in
Shanghai and one in Beijing while Celine is on break. Berman said Celine
is the most popular entertainer in the world in the eyes of the Chinese!

Tony Moran speaks about Celine
"Working with Celine Dion I was vert nervous. It wasn't because she
was such a big star, but because everything around her was really big.
There were so many record executives and video cameras everywhere, it
was really hard for me to get comfartable with so many people watching.
When I had to sing to her to show her how I wanted the song to sound,
I was so nervous I told Celine she had to turn around because I coudln't
sing in her face. She did it-she thought it was cute.
It was really funny and at the end it was a really great experience.READ

Five-time Grammy Award recipient to be honored October 10, 2004
Five-time
Grammy Award recipient Celine Dion, who has sold a combined total of over
165 million albums, has been selected to receive the Society of Singers
13th Annual ELLA Award October 10, 2004 at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.
The event has been moved from the previously announced June date in Beverly
Hills to the newly announced date in Las Vegas. The announcement was made
by Society of Singers president and CEO Jerry F. Sharell.
The ELLA Award, named after its first recipient Ella Fitzgerald, is given
to singers whose contribution to the music world is equaled by his/her
dedication to humanitarian causes and community support. The non-profit
organization, Society of Singers (SOS), offers comprehensive services
to meet the emergency financial needs of professional singers worldwide
and works within the entertainment community to advance the vocal arts
through scholarships. Society of Singers was co-founded in 1984 by Chairman
Emeritus Ginny (Mrs. Henry) Mancini and Gilda Maiken Anderson. Previous
ELLA Award recipients include Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Tony Martin,
Peggy Lee, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Lena Horne, Rosemary Clooney,
Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, Dame Julie Andrews, Placido Domingo and Barry
Manilow.
Jerry F. Sharell, SOS, President/CEO said, "The Board of Directors
of SOS gave unanimous approval to award the ELLA to Ms. Dion. I consider
her a most dynamic performer and passionate human being. Her musical performances
are legendary and her contributions to mankind are mega-generous. Above
all, she is a marvelous person with a heart as big as Canada! And I am
one of her biggest fans."
Ms. Celine Dion stated, "I'm honored to be the recipient of this
year's ELLA Award in my adopted town of Las Vegas! The combination of
my show and then receiving the award afterwards will make this a truly
special evening for my family, my close friends and for all the SOS members
and guests from across the country who will be coming to share this occasion
with me."
During her spectacular career, Celine Dion has sold a combined total
of over 165 million albums. She is a 5-time Grammy Award winner, including
Album of the Year and Best Pop Album for "Falling Into You"
(1996); and Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for
"My Heart Will Go On" (1998). Her Epic recordings have won two
Academy Awards: Best Original Song From A Film in 1992, for the title
song of "Beauty and the Beast" (with Peabo Bryson), and Best
Original Song from A Film in 1998, for "My Heart Will Go On"
(From "Titanic"). She has earned seven American Music Awards
and, in her native Canada, she has won 20 Juno Awards and an astonishing
39 Felix Awards (Quebec). Her hugely successful show, "A New Day...,"
an unparalleled combination of performance, passion, and theatrical innovation,
has been the hottest ticket in Las Vegas, playing to sold-out audiences
since its opening on March 25, 2003 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
The Society of Singers (SOS) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established
in 1984 by Ginny Mancini. This human service agency offers comprehensive
services to meet the emergency financial needs of professional singers
worldwide. Eligible applicants have earned their primary living as a singer
for five years or more and represent all ages, ethnic and socio-economic
backgrounds, locales and singing styles. The Society also works within
the entertainment community to advance vocal arts through its scholarship
programs. For more information please consult www.singers.org.

Celine on Jay leno
It's
a GOOD MORNING back in Hollywood after a look-see at Las Vegas, which
continues to be, beyond a doubt, the fastest growing entertainment-based
city in the world. At Caesars this weekend were the Motion Picture &
Television Fund Foundation's Ken Scherer and Emilie Kennedy and Michael
Douglas (news)' publicist Allen Burry. They were meeting with Caesars
executive vice president Joseph Jimenez for an upcoming gala weekend expected
to raise over a million-$ for the MPTF. Scherer and Burry will exec produce
the weekend, which includes the "Michael Douglas & Friends Presented
by Lexus" celeb golf tourney at Caesars' Cascata golf course and
a May 1 gala headlining Liza Minnelli (news) and including Kenny G, Richie
Samboro and Shelby Lynne (news). An auction at the gala will include Douglas'
classic Harley motorcycle -- and a ride with Michael up the Calif. coastline.
Jeffrey Katzenberg, MPTF Foundation prez, will auction tix to next year's
"Night Before" Oscar party. Among sponsors for the event is
Jim Rogers, owner of Las Vegas' Sunbelt Communications and NBC affiliate
KVBC. (The golf tourney airs on ABC, July 18 after the British Masters.)
Bob Lanning directs and produces the TV'd golf tourney, with Scherer and
Burry as exec producers of the weekend event ... By that time, Caesars
will have completed a $400 million expansion of suites, a Roman plaza
with 70 more premium shops and famous eateries, including Miami's Joe's
Stone Crabs ... Vegas has certainly come a long way since my first introduction
to the city, when there were a couple of hotels: the Last Frontier (later
the New Frontier) and the El Rancho Vegas. Since then, I've opened almost
all of the hotels on the then-building strip, from the Flamingo to the
Desert Inn, the Sands, the Hilton and Caesars Palace (where I arrived
in a chariot to greet stars attending the bow of their first attraction,
Andy Williams (news)). Every top star has played there since the
opening 38 years ago and now the remarkable Celine Dion (news) stars there
in a theater and eye-filling production -- an entertainment that never
could have been imagined by the founding dreamers of this city.
DESPITE THE PUBLIC'S KNOWLEDGE (and chagrin) that the Siegfried &
Roy show is no longer, crowds continue to pour into the Mirage hotel to
visit Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden, where you can see the magnificent
white lions and tigers that were part of the act. Not only do fans line
up at the boxoffice, but also at the souvenir shops featuring the famed
cats. The first two segs of DreamWorks' "Father of the Pride"
animated series, based on Siegfried & Roy, will be shown to NBC execs
Wednesday. And "For Roy, with Love," an evening dedicated to
Roy Horn, with a special scheduled appearance by Siegfried Fischbacher,
will be held at the Henry Fonda (news) theater on Hollywood Blvd. May
1. It's part of the 36h annual Academy of Magical Arts awards show and
banquet in association with the Magic Castle, with which Siegfried &
Roy have been friend for years. Magic-loving stars skedded to appear (perform?)
include Jason Alexander (news), Stan Freberg, Teri Hatcher (news), Tippi
Hedren (news), Irene Larsen. Mac King receives the Magician of the Year
award ... Talking magic, while in Vegas we caught the inimitable Lance
Burton at the Monte Carlo, where he's had his own (SRO) theater for eight
years. (He previously performed at the Tropicana and Folies Bergere, a
total of 24 years baffling audiences.) One of the props in his show is
a copy of Daily Variety. He told me he's been using our paper for years
in his "tear and repair" magic act --y'know, where he tears
up a page of the paper and magically has it reappear whole. Howcum Daily
Variety? "I like the consistency of your paper," he smiled.
Burton joins Celine Dion and Jerry Seinfeld (news) on Jay Leno's
"Tonight" show when it emanates from the Paris hotel May 12.
And he wings in to L.A. to appear at the "We SPARK Cancer
Support Center" May 3 at the U. of Judaism hosted by Tom Hanks (news)
... Among the many expansions in Las Vegas, Cirque du Soleil, now playing
SRO at the Bellagio, has a new show in the works to bow this Fall at the
MGM Grand ... The Bellagio recovered from its incredible power failure
last week and among the many losses -- including hotel revenue, rooms,
casino, shops -- I learned that Le Cirque had lost some of its prized
white wines: When the power returned, the surge quick-froze some vintages!
... Lunching at Spago at Caesars, with Angelina and Joe Jimenez and Bernie
Yuman, we were interrupted by a phone call to Bernie from Anthony Hopkins
(news) in Australia; he was readying to head to the Great Barrier Reef.
He just called to say hello to Bernie, with whom he'd hosted "Siegfried
& Roy' the Magic Box" Imax movie -- and Bernie later was best
man at Hopkins'

Lavish fund-raiser buoys Opportunity Village
Elizabeth
Foyt's social column appears Wednesdays. Reach her at elizabethfoyt@prodigy.net.
Caesars Palace President Mark Juliano and Opportunity Village board member
Billy Walters were among the major supporters joining Celine Dion and
husband Rene Angelil to present Easter Sunday's spectacular fund-raiser
to benefit Opportunity Village.
Every cast member and musician, and all members of the support staff who
produce "A New Day ...," donated their talents and services,
as did Dion for this special performance.
Proceeds from ticket sales at the 4,100-seat Colosseum and related events
that evening will be used to enrich the lives of the mentally challenged,
providing training, jobs and social activities and helping to build self-esteem.
Festivities began early with many generously supporting the performance
as well as the champagne reception in Caesars' Roman Ballroom.
Nordstroms General Manager Alan Morrell, Greg Olafson, banker Bill Martin,
Meredith and Craig Johnson, Rep. Shelley Berkley and husband, Dr. Larry
Lehrner, County Commissioner Mary Kincaid-Chauncey, Bucky and Giana Buchanan,
Brian and Debbie Munch, J.A. Tiberti and Regent Thalia Dondero were among
those who mixed and mingled with the Scintas, who also adopted Opportunity
Village after arriving in Las Vegas some five years ago.|
Gina Polovina, president of Opportunity Village Foundation, attended with
husband Ira David Sternberg and brought as special guests her maternal
grandparents Julian and Iris Smolen. Julian, celebrating his 80th birthday
that evening, is a longtime Las Vegas resident.
A select group, among them benefactors of long standing Claudine Williams
and Kitty Rodman, attended an elite pre-concert reception with Dion in
one of Caesars' luxury suites.
Happily posing for photos with the superstar were Colette Saltz, Frank
and Bonnie Martin, Dale and Carl Rowe, Brad Friedmutter with Linda Fresh,
Donna and Bob McDonald, Paul Dykstra of GES-Greyhound Exhibition Services
and Terri Sturm. Other major contributors stepping into the limelight
with Dion were Dick and Lynne Foster, Cliff and Darlene Miller, Larry
and Annette Carter, the Morrissey family and representatives from Station
Casinos and Mandalay Resort Group.
Proceeds from the event, including a $150,000 direct gift from Dion and
Angelil, netted $930,000. It will be used for the development of a third
Opportunity Village campus, which will be built in the northwest region
of the valley.
Opportunity Village is celebrating its 50th birthday this June. It was
founded in 1954 by seven parents who wished to open a larger world for
their children.

New edition: Et René crea Celine
The book of Jean Beaunoyer and de Jean Beaulne, “Et
René créa Céline”,is now available in a new
version in France with some changes like the new cover:

Celine and Rene..., On big spenders list...
The
lastest "Globe" tabloid did a count down of their top 10 choices
of celebs who are the biggest spenders... Celine and Rene came in at #8,
the article reads as follows:
Celine Dion makes the big spenders list as much for the money she spends
on others as for what she spends on herself. Every year, the 36-year-old
singer throws a $1 million Christmas party for her family and friends.
A few yers ago, she gave each of her 13 siblings $100,000 in their stockings.
Door prizes at her parties include vacations, TV's and CD players. She
has gifted her parents with a $3 million Palm Beach mansion and an equally
posh Canadian ski Chalet. But she doesn't neglect herself either. "I
love shopping," says Celine. "All year long, I buy clothes.
This is my favorite thing. It's the most expensive sport I have ever done
in my life. We have four houses and they're all full of my shoes. I buy
shoes and then I buy outfits to go with them." She has more than
1,000 pairs of shoes- so many that her hubby suprised her with a $200,000
300-square-foot closet, complete with heated marble floor and Louis XIV
furniture. Adds Celine, "There's a floor-to-ceiling mirror that has
lighted shelves for my shoes behind it."

The power of Celine
By MICHELLE MARK, CALGARY SUN
Listening to Celine Dion while battling cancer gave a Calgary mom the
extra motivation she needed to fight the deadly disease. Now, with the
help of her friends, she hopes to meet the Canadian diva in person to
round out a dream come true.
"Some of her songs really inspired me and gave me strength through
some really bleak days in the hospital," said 46-year-old Carla Fiorentino,
who was battling a massive tumour on her lung.
During three rounds of chemotherapy, a stem-cell transplant and six rounds
of radiation, Fiorentino's friends coached her to recovery with a trip
to Las Vegas. When her tumor shrunk to the size of a thumbnail, they added
Dion tickets to the deal.
"I can't believe this is happening," she said.
"I read an article saying she sometimes likes to meet her fans, so
I thought I'd write her a letter and hope for the best. "What have
I got to lose?"
Fiorentino's cancer is not yet in remission, but tests have shown the
shrunken spot on her lung has not grown in months. Fiorentino and her
friends are heading to Vegas on April 29 and will be taking in Dion's
show at Caesar's Palace on May 1. "This trip and seeing your performance
is part of a dream come true," Fiorentino wrote in a letter to Dion."The
second part of the dream is that I am still alive and able to stay around
for a while to raise my son." Fiorentino's son Anthony is 14. Celine
Dion's representatives at Sony Music could not be reached for comment.

Sarah McLachlan wins Juno for best pop album
Canadian Press - EDMONTON — A-list musical talent from across Canada
toasted their successes Saturday at a private dinner party overlooking
the North Saskatchewan River.
It was the first of two Juno awards nights in Edmonton, a swanky non-televised
affair that saw the presentation of 29 statuettes and two special lifetime
achievement awards.
Picking up where she left off after a break from recording, Sarah McLachlan
was welcomed back with the best pop album trophy for Afterglow. It marks
the Halifax-born singer's sixth Juno win.
It was no surprise when the country recording of the year was awarded
to Shania Twain for her multi-million selling Up! She beat out Terri Clark,
Doc Walker, Brad Johner and Aaron Lines.
Toronto's Holly Cole took home best jazz vocal for Shade while Guido Basso
took traditional jazz album.
Best alternative album went to Buck 65 for Talkin' Honky Blues, inspired
by a trip the Nova Scotia singer took to Paris.
Vancouver's Michael Buble, who made a huge splash in Canada and overseas
with his swing-inspired self-titled CD, was named best new artist.
Rapper 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' won international album, and former
Big Sugar guitarist Gavin Brown was rewarded for producing records by
Billy Talent and Three Days Grace.
(...)The televised awards will include best album, a tough race that pits
Buble's self-titled debut, Celine Dion's One Heart, Nelly
Furtado's Folklore, McLachlan's Afterglow, Nickelback's The Long Road
and Sam Roberts' We Were Born in a Flame. The category normally has only
five competitors but a sixth was added this year after what the recording
academy called a "data-entry error."
Also being handed out Sunday are best single, best artist, best songwriter
and best new group. read

Picking a winner: It's a horse race
At
last we come to the big one on Juno Who Will Win? - album of the year.
For the winner, nothing but glory, a place in the history books, Canadian
history books, anyway. For the "losers," well, they're all winners
already. And we mean that literally. Each of the nominees for album of
the year is either A. fabulously rich and famous or B. about to be. It
comes back to the old argument about the real value of winning a Juno
Award in the grand scheme of things. Not much, say some pundits - certainly
not even close to the sales boost that commonly comes after winning a
Grammy - but we've spilled so much ink on this topic already that we're
not about to rain on Edmonton's parade. All hail the Junos!
ONE HEART, Celine Dion: Despite our belief that Celine is a class
act, has an incredible voice, is a masterful performer and is the richest
pop star this side of Barbra Streisand, this is Celine's worst album yet
- and that's saying something. Musical cliches abound, let alone the lyrics,
replete with hearts beating, stolen moments, tender touches, soul connections,
dawning suns, clouds with silver linings, lonely rivers, oceans, mountains,
stars, rainbows, moonbeams, the works du fromage. One Heart is actually
a phenomenon: A collection of love songs with no soul whatsoever. If this
thing wins, Prime Minister Paul Martin should investigate CARAS (the Canadian
Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences). Source: www.canoë.com
MIRACLE PROJECT
The
boxset called 'Miracle' got already 500,000 bookings in the U.S.A. only.
Anne Geddes' photo of René-Charles when he was only 3 weeks old
will be published in the booklet. Last month, Celine spent one week in
New York with 120 babies all aged 3-weeks old and younger. The album will
feature 14 love-songs dedicated to children, Céline's songs on
this CD translate the emotions that parents feel for their children but
are unable to express... among them there will be the French song "Une
Chanson Douce" sung by Céline and Henri Salvador (they also
sang that song during "1 fille & 4 types" TV Special). For
the photo sessions, Céline had to get-up at 6am, and rush to the
studio as to not make the babies wait. For once, she wasn't the star:
the babies were! Posing for the pictures with such small babies was very
difficult. Céline sometimes had babies on her head, on her stomach
while standing up, etc.... She was nervous and scared to handle the babies
when her hands became sweaty. She was more nervous than the babies' parents
were. All of the babies peed or pooped on Céline. Céline
couldn't move when she was in certain positions so people just came to
clean-up the babies' mess while she was posing.

Celine's Frog!
Although
rock merchandising does not involve the physical risks associated with
other crew jobs, it is not without challenges. One of the more frustrating
aspects is trudging through the bureaucratic quagmire of international
customs--specifically, bringing merchandise from the United States into
Canada to sell at Canadian concert dates. In 1998, I landed a job on the
Celine Dion tour at the peak of her Titanic success. Our most popular
souvenir was a small stuffed frog wearing a tiny "Celine" T-shirt.
Celine Dion loves frogs. People send her toy frogs from all over the world,
and before each concert, she has them playfully arranged in her dressing
room. Fortunately, kids love them, too, and the frogs were a huge seller.
As a result, I found myself declaring a payload of 9,000 toy frogs to
a humorless Canadian customs official, who informed me that the frogs
themselves could enter Canada, but the tiny T-shirts they were wearing
could not--something about trade sanctions with the country that manufactured
them. So there, at the Canadian border, in the middle of a blinding, testicle-retracting
snowstorm, I carefully undressed 9,000 frogs.
Upon arriving at the arena in Calgary, one of Celine’s assistants
strode up to me with a deadly serious _expression on her face. She was
holding a small, shirtless frog.
“These frogs are naked!” she said tersely. “What happened
to their shirts?”
I told her about the customs incident.
She studied the toy for a moment, examining it from all angles, then looked
me in the eye: “Maybe you can find them some tiny pants. Because
we can’t sell naked frogs. Celine won’t have it.”
Trying to find a decent margarita in Calgary is difficult. Trying to find
9,000 pairs of tiny frog pants on a snowy Sunday evening is enough to
burst a vein in your head. Source: spin.com

flights in the first place, Right Mrs Dion Angélil)
The best way to look good is just postpone the trip...no problem...you'll
stay looking very beautiful!
Ehm...flying is so difficult ehm...you get dehydrated, if you don't have
voiceproblems you get lucky, if you don't get dehydrated in your face
you get lucky.
You have to drink constantly...even more...I guess flying is like living
in the desert you have to...
If you wait until you're thirsty it's already too late, so you have to
drink constantly ehm...add some moisturizers to your skin and if you can
have no make-up on
but put your PJ's on (a momnet you see her thinking O wait they are talking
about Commercial flights) even if you just travel commercial.
It doesn't matter, make yourself comfortable and if you can ask for a
hot towel and then you can breathe in the humidity of this hot towel...it's
a kind of inhalation..and it can make your sinusses...breathe well, also
good moisturize to your skin. So there's no miracle you know. When you
travel and work hard and you're on a schedule, the plane it's hard for
everybody. If we would have miracles and tricks we'd share them with everybody.
But we don't really, we try our best.

Celine with lots of babies this fall!
Last
month, Céline Dion spent one week to New York surrounded by one
hundred twenty babies, all three weeks old or less. The goal of the exercise:
A splendid album of signed photographs Anne Geddes and a completely different
disc. The publication of this box, Miracle, is expected that for l?automne.
However, in the United States only, five hundred and thousand specimens
are already reserved! This marvellous idea comes from the Dion-Angélil
couple. The famous photographer, who had made stereotypes of Rene-Charles
lorsqu?il had three weeks (one of these photographs will be published
in l?album), was enchanted by the project. The fourteen songs, of which
a soft song, of Henri El Salvador, which will be found on CD of Celine
are songs d?amour that each relative would want to murmur or of fredonner
to his/her child. "I sing the emotions which the parents live, but
qu?ils has sometimes of the difficulty of expressing", will say a
Celine all in beauty, a few minutes after having left the scene. Visual
side, to have seen some of these photographs, one can affirm high and
strong that they are true?uvres d?art. But the sessions of photographs
were not always of any rest. Celine tells: "I lifted myself to a
height of 6 hours, I had a coffee of speed and I went to the studio, which
was located just beside our apartment. "One then started to prepare
me and, for 9. 30, it was necessary that I would be ready (make-up, hairstyle,
cloths). "Not question of making await the babies. The star, this
did not n?était me, c?étaient them!", she will say
while smiling. Concerning and dirtying! Most difficult of these sessions,
of course the collecting of the photographs themselves. It is certainly
not simple to work with d?aussi little babies. "J?ai found that very
moving, but also very intense physically. The babies weighed on average
six or seven books and the positions taken for the photographs are not
the natural ones. "Sometimes, I have a baby on the head, sometimes
on my belly whereas I am upright (!), other times in my hands placed out
of cut? "This n?est not your baby that you hold thus and I felt the
tension and the anxiety of the moms concerned, who were of course present
in the studio. "felt sometimes that sweat ran along my body. I had
often moist hands by holding a baby, who, then, necessarily became slipping.
It was necessary that I would be very careful." And what do you believe
arrives for a baby who cjust ate and who is very ahaked "All the
babies made wee and excrement! But as position did not have anything to
be changed. One came to wipe, on me ..." If that obstructed sometimes
the moms, Céline Dion knew, by a sign or a covering joint how to
reassure them.

French chanteuse singing Celine Dion song beats
Canadians on Star Academy
PARIS
(AP) - A 21-year-old French singer won an international competition of
young performers who shot to fame on reality shows that coached them on
how to become pop stars. Elodie Frege of France's Star Academy beat out
contestants from 10 countries, including a Canadian duo, on Tuesday. Wearing
a red satin dress, she crooned Celine Dion's S'il Suffisait d'Aimer (If
Loving Was Enough). Star Academy, in which young pop-star wannabes live
together in a posh chateau and take voice and dance lessons, is a few
seasons old but still a hit in France.
Lionel Richie and Phil Collins also made appearances at the contest in
southern France, held at the same theatre that hosts the Cannes Film Festival.
The second-place winners were Wilfred and Marie-Elaine of Canada. Together,
they sang Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart, with parts of the
song translated into French.
Mexico's Darina descended from a swing in a sleek turquoise dress and
sang Mariah Carey's song Hero for a third-place finish.
Other contestants came from Germany, Spain, Brazil, Lebanon, Chile, Russia,
Britain and Argentina. No one from U.S. show American Idol competed.©

New Music Video!
French
director Didier Kerbrat was selected to work with Céline to create
the music video for her new single "Contre nature." This was
his first experience working with Céline, but he has previously
directed videos for Yannick Noah, Natasha St-Pier and Kyo, as well as
directing publicity shoots for L'Oréal.
CELINE AND NAKED FROGS
Although
rock merchandising does not involve the physical risks associated with
other crew jobs, it is not without challenges.
